In 1962, it was declared a national cultural monument, thanks to the connection with the life of the church reformer Jan Hus.

The first mentions of Kozí Hrádek date back to 1377. It was here from the summer of 1413 that the well-known preacher and reformer Master Jan Hus took refuge . He preached at Kozí Hrádek and in the surrounding area, devoted himself to work on his works, completed his important “Postila” here and wrote, for example, the treatise “On Holy Communion” , “On the Church” or the work “On Six Delusions” . He left southern Bohemia on July 15, 1414 for Krakovec Castle near Rakovník and then made his last journey to Constance in October, where he was burned at the stake on July 6, 1415 for his views.

Kozí Hrádek was surrounded by a 140 cm thick wall, on the east side with a gate. It had an 18 m deep well and rock-hewn cellar rooms. The inner castle also had a strong wall and a 25 m high tower-like lord’s palace. It burned down in 1438. It was probably looted and burned by Albrecht II’s mercenaries. Habsburg during the siege of Tábor, when the army was encamped near the nearby village of Měšice. For centuries, it served in the wider area only as a source of building stone, it gradually became clogged with soil and a stony mound overgrown with trees and bushes arose in the terrain. After 1886, the remains of the tower were uncovered. The exposed torso of Kozí Hrádek was expertly researched and preserved in the first half of the 20th century.

After repair work on the rest of the masonry and the surrounding terrain, today the ruin is in good condition and open to the public. Since 1991, the ruin has been owned by the city of Sezimovo Ústí. Kozí Hrádek is a popular tourist destination for visitors from the surrounding area and from abroad. In 2015, a comic educational trail was opened here.

Operator

Municipal center of culture and sports
Nám.T.Bati 701
391 02 Sezimovo Ústí
Tel.: +420 381 276 707

Tel.: +420 737 254 684

Email: mexus@sezimovo-us…

WWW: www.sezimovo-usti…

GPS: 49.389748 14.724212

Region: Südböhmische Region
Region: Toulava
Stadt: Sezimova Ústí
Tipps für einen Ausflug: Sezimovo Ústí and surroundings

Öffnungszeiten

Mai – September

1.5. – 30.9.

Montag

Dienstag – Sonntag

GESCHLOSSEN

09:00-17:00

Zulassung

Preis: 30 CZK

Reduzierter Preis: 20 CZK

Dauer

1,5 Stunden

Related Reading

Die alte Burg Krakovec – Meister Jan Hus zelebrierte die Messe in der Kapelle

Sirotčí hradek – ein Wahrzeichen von Pavlovské vrchy

Burgruine Falkenstein in der Böhmischen Schweiz

Svojanov Castle – a place where the Gothic and the Empire mix, that is, the Middle Ages and the 19th century

Southeast of Tábor on the left bank of the Kozské brook lies the ruins of the Gothic castle Kozí Hrádek, which is the most memorable castle in Tábor.
