{"id":16649,"date":"2026-08-21T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/praguehints.com\/unesco-sites-czech-republic\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T21:06:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T19:06:35","slug":"unesco-sites-czech-republic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/praguehints.com\/ko\/unesco-sites-czech-republic\/","title":{"rendered":"UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Czech Republic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Whole historic towns, a gothic cathedral of bones, a modernist villa and a hop-growing landscape.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Czech Republic is unusually rich in UNESCO World Heritage sites for its size, and the range is odd in a good way: entire preserved towns, a single villa, a landscaped park the size of a district and a working agricultural landscape.<\/p>\n<h2>The historic towns<\/h2>\n<p><strong>\ud504\ub77c\ud558<\/strong>&rsquo;s historic centre was listed in 1992. <strong>&Ccaron;esk&yacute; Krumlov<\/strong> is an almost untouched medieval town wrapped in a river bend beneath an enormous castle. <strong>Tel&ccaron;<\/strong> has one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, arcaded and pastel-coloured. <strong>Kutn&aacute; Hora<\/strong> was a silver-mining rival to Prague, and its <strong>Sedlec Ossuary<\/strong> &mdash; decorated with the bones of forty thousand people &mdash; is the single most unsettling place in the country.<\/p>\n<h2>Villages and landscapes<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Hola&scaron;ovice<\/strong> is a preserved village of South Bohemian folk baroque farmhouses. The <strong>Lednice&ndash;Valtice<\/strong> complex is a vast landscaped park of chateaux, follies and avenues laid out by the Liechtensteins &mdash; one of the largest designed landscapes in Europe. The <strong>&Zcaron;atec<\/strong> hop-growing landscape was added recently, recognising centuries of hop cultivation.<\/p>\n<h2>Single buildings<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Villa Tugendhat<\/strong> in Brno, built by Mies van der Rohe in 1930, is one of the founding works of modern architecture. The <strong>Archbishop&rsquo;s Chateau and Gardens at Krom&ecaron;&rcaron;&iacute;&zcaron;<\/strong> is baroque garden design at its most complete. <strong>Litomy&scaron;l<\/strong> chateau is Renaissance; <strong>Treb\u00ed&ccaron;<\/strong> preserves a Jewish quarter and basilica together; <strong>\uc62c\ub85c\ubaa8\uc6b0\uce20<\/strong> has an extraordinary Holy Trinity column.<\/p>\n<h2>Which are worth the trip<\/h2>\n<p>From Prague: <strong>Kutn&aacute; Hora<\/strong> is an hour and doable in a day. <strong>&Ccaron;esk&yacute; Krumlov<\/strong> is three hours and deserves an overnight. <strong>Tel&ccaron;<\/strong> \uadf8\ub9ac\uace0 <strong>Hola&scaron;ovice<\/strong> suit a car or a longer Moravian loop.<\/p>\n<h2>Intangible heritage too<\/h2>\n<p>Czech and Slovak <strong>marionette theatre<\/strong>, <strong>Ride of the Kings<\/strong> folk ritual in Moravia, and Czech <strong>blueprint fabric dyeing<\/strong> all appear on UNESCO&rsquo;s intangible heritage lists.<\/p>\n<h2>\uc790\uc8fc \ubb3b\ub294 \uc9c8\ubb38<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Which UNESCO site is easiest from Prague?<\/strong><br \/>Kutn&aacute; Hora &mdash; an hour by train, with the cathedral and the ossuary in one visit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is the Bone Church really made of bones?<\/strong><br \/>Yes.
