In 2024, the “Smetana 200 Project” will commemorate the 200th anniversary of Bed\u0159ich Smetana’s (1824\u20131884) birth<\/strong> and the 140th anniversary of his passing<\/strong>. Alongside Smetana, the project will celebrate several other significant figures in Czech music history.<\/p>\n

Petr Hapka (1944\u20132014), Emil Franti\u0161ek Burian (1904\u20131959), Vil\u00e9m Blodek (1834\u20131874),<\/strong> and Franti\u0161ek Anton\u00edn M\u00ed\u010da (1694\u20131774)<\/strong> are among the composers highlightedv. M\u00ed\u010da is notably the author of the first opera sung in Czech, with ties to the Questenberk family and Jarom\u011b\u0159ice nad Rokytnou castle.<\/p>\n

The years ending in four also frame the lives of classical giants like Anton\u00edn Dvo\u0159\u00e1k (1841\u20131904), Leo\u0161 Jan\u00e1\u010dek (1854\u20131928), Josef Suk (1874\u20131935),<\/strong> and Oskar Nedbal (1874\u20131930)<\/strong>. Avant-garde composer and pianist Erv\u00edn Schulhoff (1894\u20131942), folk song collector Karl Weiss (1862\u20131944),<\/strong> and conductor Rafael Kubel\u00edk (1914\u20131996)<\/strong> will celebrate their 100th birthdays in 2024, reflecting on their own contributions to the musical world.<\/p>\n

Other notable personalities from this era include composer and music director Vlastimil H\u00e1la (1924\u20131985), Jan Rychl\u00edk,<\/strong> the composer of the music for the hit films “Lemonade Joe” and “Horse Opera,” and Ji\u0159\u00ed \u0160litr (1924\u20131969)<\/strong>, a composer and actor.<\/p>\n

We’ll also recall the achievements of older luminaries like baroque composer and organist Bohuslav Mat\u011bj \u010cernohorsk\u00fd (1684\u20131742), Josef Bohuslav Foerster (1859\u20131951),<\/strong> and Bohuslav Martin\u016f (1890\u20131959)<\/strong>. *Jazz singer and composer Jana Koubkov\u00e1 (1944)<\/em> will celebrate her 80th birthday.<\/p>\n

However, the world of music extends beyond composers and singers who are four years apart. We’ll introduce you to figures like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756\u20131791), hosted at Bertramka by Ji\u0159\u00ed Anton\u00edn Benda (1722\u20131795),<\/strong> and Franti\u0161ek Xaver Du\u0161ek (1731\u20131799)<\/strong> through “Kudy z nudy.”<\/p>\n

Among more modern composers, we’ll present group leader Jarom\u00edr Vejvoda (1902\u20131988), Jaroslav Je\u017eek (1906\u20131942),<\/strong> and Ilja Hurn\u00edk (1922\u20132013)<\/strong>, along with the songs of Gustav Mahler (1860\u20131911)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
