July is the hottest and busiest month in Prague. The centre is full, the queues are real, and afternoon temperatures regularly reach the high twenties with little shade on the cobbles. But the city adapts: beer gardens run all evening, the islands fill with picnics, and open-air cinema and concerts take over the courtyards. Get up early, rest in the afternoon, and come back out at six.

Where to go this month

  • Shaded gardens — Vojan, Wallenstein and the Franciscan Garden give you walls, trees and quiet in the middle of the heat. 更多的
  • The river — Boats, swimming spots and the reservoirs north of the city. 更多的
  • Early mornings — Charles Bridge before 07:00 in July is a completely different bridge. 更多的

Photography in July

The hardest month for photography: harsh overhead sun from ten until six. Shoot at sunrise (around 05:00) or in the last hour before sunset at 21:00. Shaded courtyards and gardens are the reliable midday option for family sessions.

For family and couple sessions in July, a local photographer will know which spots hold the light at that hour — 凯末尔奥努尔奥兹曼 shoots families, couples and engagements across Prague and took many of the photographs on this site.

Proposing in July?Sunrise is the honest answer in July. At 05:00 Charles Bridge is empty and the light is extraordinary — and you will have the photographs nobody else has. See our guide to 17 proposal locations in Prague for the full list with timings.

Practical tips for July

  • Carry water; free refills are not standard.
