The museum cares for one of the most extensive collections of Judaica in the world. It contains 40,000 collection items and 100,000 books.
The Jewish Museum in Prague was founded in 1906. Historian dr. Salomon Hugo Lieben and dr. August Stein, representative of the Czech Jewish movement and later chairman of the Prague Jewish community. Its purpose was to document the history, traditions and customs of the Jewish population in Bohemia and Moravia.
The Jewish Museum owns rich collections of silver , textiles and has one of the most extensive collections of Judaica in the world , containing over 40,000 collection items and 100,000 books. It is unique not only in the number of its objects, but above all in the fact that they come from one integrated territory – from Bohemia and Moravia. In summary, the collection thus provides a complete picture of the life and history of Jews in this region.
The Jewish Museum administers the following objects in the area of the former Prague ghetto, in which there are permanent exhibitions: the Maisel Synagogue , the Spanish Synagogue , the Pinas Synagogue and the Old Jewish Cemetery , the Klaus Synagogue , the Ceremonial Hall (the building of the Prague Funeral Brotherhood) and the Robert Guttmann Gallery.
The Jewish Museum’s program to educate against antisemitism in the Czech Republic: the museum offers visitors a tour with an exclusively Czech expert interpretation at a significant discount. This tour will always take place on Sundays and public holidays at 2:00 p.m. Adults pay 130 CZK, children under 6 years old have free entry and children 6-15 years old, students and pensioners pay 80 CZK. The program also includes guided entry to the Jewish Museum and Old Synagogue . Tickets must be purchased at the ŽMP Information and Reservation Center (Maiselova 15, Prague 1, back office).

2003 – Gloria musaealis Award in the category Museum Publication of the Year 2003 – for the catalog “Textiles from Bohemian and Moravian Synagogues ”
2006 – Prize of the Czech ICOM Committee – for the project “A Year with Jewish Culture – 100 Years of the Jewish Museum in Prague”
2005 – Special Prize in the category Museum Publication of the Year 2005 – for the publication “The Man Who Didn’t Give Up / The Story of Josef Polák (1886– 1945)”
