Best 7 Hotels with River Views in Prague

Seven Prague hotels on the banks of the Vltava, including a converted hotel boat, and a straight answer on which ones sell rooms facing the water.

The river makes the classic Prague view: Charles Bridge stepping across the Vltava, the red roofs of Malá Strana and the Castle on the ridge behind. From the Old Town bank you look across at the Castle; from Malá Strana or Smíchov you look back at the Old Town spires. Either way, the best evening walk in the city starts at your door. It suits couples, first-timers and anyone who would rather spend on the room than on taxis.

Every hotel here is one we have written about in detail on Prague Hints, spread across the Old Town, Malá Strana, the New Town and Smíchov, from five-stars with pools to a boat with cabins. We only promise river-view rooms where the hotel itself does.

1. Fairmont Golden Prague (formerly Golden Prague Hotel / InterContinental)

Pařížská 30 · Old Town

For decades the large hotel at the river end of Pařížská was simply “the InterContinental”. It later traded as the Golden Prague Hotel managed by Fairmont, and after a thorough refurbishment it has reopened as the Fairmont Golden Prague. It stands where the city’s smartest shopping street meets the Vltava, with 372 rooms, suites and apartments, some looking over the river and others over the Old Town skyline.

It is the most complete stay on this list: a spa with a heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi and saunas, a gym, a private garden with a sunbathing area and a Club Lounge. The rooftop restaurant terrace has long been known for its views over the Old Town roofs. Ask for a river-facing room specifically, and check the current restaurant and spa line-up, as names may have changed with the refurbishment.

2. The President Hotel Prague

Náměstí Curieových 100 · Old Town · five-star

The President Hotel Prague is a five-star on the right bank of the Vltava, on the same stretch of embankment as the Fairmont and a short walk from Old Town Square and the former Jewish Quarter. It has 135 rooms including a presidential suite, and some look across the river towards Prague Castle.

There is a modern Italian restaurant, a lobby bar and lounge, garage parking and a wellness centre with a swimming pool, sauna and steam bath, a real bonus in a city where relatively few central hotels have a pool. The view rooms are the reason to come, so book a Castle- or river-view category rather than hoping for an upgrade.

3. Mamaison Hotel Riverside Prague

Janáčkovo nábřeží 15 · Smíchov · four-star

On the left bank, Mamaison Hotel Riverside Prague fronts the Smíchov embankment, about 15 minutes’ walk from Charles Bridge. It is a four-star with 62 rooms and 18 suites, a lobby bar, a lounge and a breakfast restaurant. The hotel advertises views but does not say which rooms face the river, so ask when you book.

This is the calmer choice. Smíchov is a lived-in neighbourhood rather than a tourist one, the riverside walk into Malá Strana is pleasant at any hour, and the restaurants around Anděl are a short walk or tram ride inland. Listings say small pets up to 9 kg are accepted.

4. Botel Matylda

Masarykovo nábřeží · New Town · four-star

The novelty pick: Botel Matylda is a hotel boat (“botel” being boat plus hotel), made from two adjoining boats moored on the Masaryk embankment and converted into a four-star hotel. The Dancing House and the National Theatre are a short walk away, and the cabins have large windows onto the river and the skyline.

Cabins on boats tend to be compact, so pack light, and expect a gentle movement underfoot. The on-board Botel Ristorante Matylda serves Italian food with the water right outside. It works best for couples on a short stay; book early for weekends. Listings say pets are not allowed.

5. Archibald At the Charles Bridge

Na Kampě 15 · Malá Strana · four-star

If you want to walk onto Charles Bridge before breakfast, Archibald At the Charles Bridge is hard to beat. This four-star boutique hotel occupies a protected 16th-century house on Na Kampě, the little square on Kampa island beside the Malá Strana end of the bridge. Select rooms overlook the square, the Vltava and the bridge itself; garden-level rooms trade the view for private outdoor seating.

There is a private garden and a small library, and pets are welcome on request. Only paid public parking is nearby, so arrive by taxi. Set an alarm at least once: the bridge at sunrise, with the statues and almost nobody on it, is the reason to stay here.

6. Charles Bridge Palace

Anenské náměstí 1 · Old Town · four-star

Charles Bridge Palace is the Old Town counterpart to the Archibald: a four-star boutique hotel from the Pinelli Hotels group, on a small square a couple of minutes’ walk from the bridge. Its 77 rooms are done in a classical chateau style, and many have views over the Vltava towards the spires of Prague Castle.

Breakfast is a buffet of Czech and international dishes in a bright dining room. It is also a popular wedding venue, so if you want a quiet weekend, ask whether an event is on. Request a river- or Castle-view room specifically; not every room has one.

7. Four Seasons Hotel Prague

Veleslavínova 1098 · Old Town · five-star

Four Seasons Hotel Prague sits on the Old Town bank right by Charles Bridge, bringing centuries of history and architecture together with contemporary rooms. It is a five-star with 157 rooms and suites, many looking across to Prague Castle or along to Charles Bridge.

Eat at CottoCrudo, the Italian restaurant, at least once, and keep the spa and fitness centre for the morning after; current listings also show an indoor pool and a pet-friendly policy. Book a Castle-view category rather than leaving it to chance; that view is what you are paying for.

Practical tips

  • Book the view, not the hope. At most of these hotels only some rooms face the river. Book a category that names the view and add a written request; upgrades on busy weekends are rare.
  • Light sleepers, go high. Some stretches of embankment carry steady traffic and trams. An upper floor usually means less noise and a better view.
  • Walk between the bridges. Every hotel here is within about 20 minutes on foot of Charles Bridge. Early morning and the hour after sunset are when the river looks its best.
  • Think before you drive. The Fairmont and The President have their own parking; around Kampa there is only paid public parking. A taxi to the door is usually simpler.

Sıkça sorulan sorular

Which Prague hotels have rooms with a river view?

On this list, the Fairmont, The President, Botel Matylda, the Archibald, Charles Bridge Palace and the Four Seasons all say some or many rooms look over the river, the Castle or Charles Bridge. At Mamaison Riverside, ask which rooms face the water.

Is it better to stay on the Old Town or the Malá Strana side?

The Old Town bank gives you the classic Castle view and puts you near Old Town Square; Malá Strana and Smíchov are calmer in the evening and closer to Petřín. Charles Bridge links the two in minutes.

What is a botel?

A hotel on a boat. Botel Matylda is two adjoining boats moored on the Masaryk embankment, run as a four-star with its own Italian restaurant. Expect cabins with big river windows and a slight movement underfoot.

Can I bring my dog to a riverside hotel?

Several say yes: Archibald welcomes pets on request, listings for the Fairmont and the Four Seasons show pet-friendly policies, and Mamaison Riverside accepts small pets up to 9 kg. Botel Matylda’s listings say no. Always confirm fees and size limits before you book.
