Where to go in Prague for proper tacos and tamales, Cuban cocktails with a live band, Brazilian grilled meat and Tex-Mex with a cold pilsner.
Prague is not the first city you would fly to for Mexican food, but the Latin American scene here is broader than most visitors expect. There is a Mexican-owned chain with five branches, a Malá Strana cantina that has been open since 1997, a Havana-style music bar a few steps from Old Town Square and an all-you-can-eat Brazilian grill. These places suit groups, birthdays and anyone who wants a night off from dumplings.
Every restaurant on this list is one we have written about in detail on Prague Hints, spread across Old Town, Malá Strana, Nové Město and Vinohrady and across moods, from relaxed lunch spots to places that keep going well into the night. Each entry links to our full guide.

1. Las Adelitas
Americká 8 · Vinohrady, Praha 2
Las Adelitas is owned and run by Mexicans, which makes it our first stop for Mexican food in Prague. It is a small Prague chain, and the restaurant on Americká in Vinohrady is one of five branches. The décor borrows from a colourful Mexican cantina, with Mexican music, cheerful staff and a family-friendly feel.
The menu covers both traditional and modern Mexican cooking, so look past the tacos and enchiladas to the chilaquiles and tamales. Drink a margarita or choose from the Mexican beers and tequilas. The chain also runs regular parties, so check its website to see what kind of night you are in for.

2. Agave Restaurant
Masná 620/2 · Staré Město, Praha 1
Agave Restaurant does modern Mexican in Old Town, within easy walking distance of the main sights. The interior mixes rustic Mexican touches with sleek modern design, which makes it work for a dinner with friends and a business lunch alike.
Tacos and burritos are on the menu, but order the tamales, which are hard to find elsewhere in Prague. The cocktail list is the other reason to come, with original Mexican-inspired drinks next to a classic margarita. You can book a table through the restaurant’s website, which is worth doing for a weekend dinner in the centre.

3. Cantina
Újezd 38 · Malá Strana, Praha 1
Cantina has been serving Mexican food on Újezd, at the foot of Petřín hill in Malá Strana, since 1997, a long run in a city where restaurants come and go quickly. The interior draws on traditional Mexican culture and the room is cosy, good for a meal with friends or a relaxed date.
The menu sticks to the classics made with good ingredients: tacos, enchiladas and a range of salsas. It is a natural stop after walking down from Petřín. Cantina now has a second branch at Rašínovo nábřeží 60 on the embankment, but this entry covers the original on Újezd. Book for evenings, especially at weekends.

4. La Bodeguita del Medio
Kaprova 5 · Staré Město, Praha 1
La Bodeguita del Medio is a Cuban cocktail and music bar-restaurant a few steps from Old Town Square, styled on colonial Havana and modelled on one of that city’s most famous bars. The décor is rich and colourful, and a live band, Quartet Havana, plays Cuban music.
Come for the drinks and the music as much as the food: mojitos and daiquiris at the bar, then steaks, fresh fish and other Caribbean-leaning dishes. It keeps much later hours than most restaurants on this list, which makes it a good last stop, and it runs special event nights through the year. Book ahead on those nights, and check the current hours before you go.

5. Brasileiro U Zelené Žáby
U Radnice 13/8 · Staré Město, Praha 1
Brasileiro U Zelené Žáby brings the Brazilian all-you-can-eat grill to a street just off Old Town Square. The main event is charcoal-grilled beef, backed up by Rio de Janeiro-style starters, sushi and salads, and the idea is simple: eat as much as you can fit.
The room is lively and colourful, and the format suits groups who want to try a bit of everything. Go hungry and do not fill up on starters before the meat arrives. It opens every day from late morning, which makes it an easy lunch near the Old Town sights.

6. La Casa Latina (formerly La Casa Argentina)
Dlouhá 35 · Staré Město, Praha 1
The restaurant we wrote up as La Casa Argentina now trades as La Casa Latina – Restaurant & Lounge Bar, at the same Dlouhá address and with the same phone number. Under its old name it was an Argentine steakhouse, with a wide range of steak cuts, Argentine specialities, some seafood and themed rooms inspired by the nautical taverns of Buenos Aires, a piano bar and the Iguazú Falls.
The new name comes with a lounge-bar billing and DJ nights, so check the current menu before you book if Argentine dishes are what you are after. Our detail page also mentions Argentine cocktails and a long wine list, and Dlouhá is one of Old Town’s liveliest evening streets.

7. Blackdog Cantina
Gorazdova 357/1 · Nové Město, Praha 2
Blackdog Cantina calls its style “fine street food”: Tex-Mex and Latin American dishes, plus burgers and steaks, made with better ingredients than street food usually gets. It sits on a square close to the Vltava in Nové Město, with a modern, laid-back interior that suits a business lunch as well as a night out with friends.
Order tacos, burritos or a round of tapas to share. Pilsner Urquell 12° comes straight from the tank, beer specials rotate, and the wine list covers Czech, South American and Spanish bottles, many from small family wineries. Seasonal specials keep the menu changing, so ask what is new.

Practical tips
- Ask about the heat. Many Prague kitchens keep chilli moderate by default. If you like your food hot, ask for extra salsa or hot sauce when you order.
- Book for Friday and Saturday. The Old Town places get busy on weekend evenings, and party or event nights fill up faster still.
- Use the Brazilian grill for a big lunch. All-you-can-eat is easier to enjoy at midday than before a late night, and it keeps you going through an afternoon of sightseeing.
- Pick your area. Agave, La Bodeguita del Medio, Brasileiro U Zelené Žáby and La Casa Latina are all in Old Town; Las Adelitas is in residential Vinohrady; Cantina is on the Malá Strana side of the river.
- Tipping. Service is not usually included. Rounding up or leaving around 10% for good service is normal; tell the server the total when you pay by card.
