Best 7 Steakhouses in Prague

Seven Prague restaurants for a proper steak, from Czech pied beef and French Charolais to Brazilian charcoal grills and a Buenos Aires-themed room in Old Town.

Prague’s food reputation rests on pork knuckle, duck and dumplings, but the city has a good spread of places that take beef seriously. Some build the whole menu around a single breed of cattle, some cook in the South American style, and one serves its charcoal-grilled meat all-you-can-eat. This list is for meat lovers, groups with something to celebrate, and anyone who has eaten enough goulash for one trip.

Every restaurant here is one we have written about in detail on Prague Hints, spread across Old Town, Nové Město, Vinohrady and Dejvice and across styles, from a casual cantina where steak shares the menu with tacos to a hotel dining room. Each entry links to our full guide.

1. Čestr

Legerova 57/75 · Vinohrady / Nové Město, Praha 2

Čestr (say “Chester”) is the Ambiente group’s beef restaurant, and its name explains the whole idea: it comes from český strakatý skot, the Czech pied cattle breed that supplies the kitchen. That makes it the most local-minded steakhouse on this list, and the room feels like a traditional Czech pub with a modern finish.

Order the beef and drink pilsner straight from the tank, about as fresh as Czech lager gets. It suits a relaxed lunch or a special-occasion dinner. Its website has carried a notice about construction work nearby, so check access details and book online before you go.

2. Beef Bar

Na Perštýně 357/10 · Staré Město, Praha 1

Beef Bar, on Na Perštýně in the southern part of Old Town, crosses continents on one menu: South American steakhouse cooking built on quality-assured beef, New York pastrami, and beer from the Czech brewery Matuška. The room is modern and stylish, smart enough for a leisurely dinner but relaxed enough for a quick lunch.

Go for one of the premium cuts and start with empanadas; if steak feels like too much at midday, the pastrami is the other house signature. The wine list leans South American, with bottles from Mendoza, San Rafael and Río Negro alongside wines from traditional family wineries. You can also buy bottles and quality ingredients to take home.

3. Restaurant U Bílé Krávy

Rubešova 10 · Vinohrady, Praha 2

Restaurant U Bílé Krávy (“At the White Cow”) specialises in Charolais, the white French cattle associated with Burgundy, and the whole place is built around that idea. The room is rustic and intimate, closer to a cosy French country pub than a polished steakhouse, and it suits a hearty dinner with friends or family.

Look for “Apros Beef Natural” on the menu; there are traditional French dishes too if someone wants something other than steak. Book for dinner, and check the hours before a weekend visit: our detail page lists it as closed on Sundays and evening-only on Saturdays.

4. Brasileiro Slovanský Dům

Na Příkopě 22 · Nové Město, Praha 1

If the plan is to eat as much grilled meat as possible, Brasileiro Slovanský Dům is the place. Another Ambiente restaurant, it runs on the Brazilian all-you-can-eat model: charcoal-grilled meats are the main event, eaten at your own pace, with a large salad bar of fresh, seasonal ingredients to balance things out.

Try the Brazilian sushi, a fusion dish that is more fun than it sounds next to smoky beef. The format suits groups and team dinners, so book if there are several of you. Na Příkopě runs between Wenceslas Square and Náměstí Republiky, so it is easy to reach.

5. La Casa Latina (formerly La Casa Argentina)

Dlouhá 35 · Staré Město, Praha 1

The restaurant we wrote up as La Casa Argentina now trades as La Casa Latina – Restaurant & Lounge Bar, at the same Dlouhá address and with the same phone number. Under its old name it was an Argentine steakhouse with a wide range of steak cuts, other Argentine specialities and some seafood, set in themed rooms inspired by the nautical taverns of Buenos Aires, a piano bar and the Iguazú Falls.

The new name comes with a lounge-bar billing and DJ nights, so if Argentine steak is the reason you are going, check the current menu before you book. Our detail page also notes Argentine cocktails and a long wine list, and Dlouhá is one of Old Town’s liveliest evening streets, so plan on dinner rolling into drinks.

6. Bull & Bonito

Evropská 15 · Dejvice, Praha 6 (Vienna House Diplomat hotel)

Bull & Bonito is the one to choose when you want steak and someone else at the table wants fish. Set in the Vienna House Diplomat hotel in Dejvice, it takes its cue from Mediterranean coastal towns and splits the menu between land and sea: mature meats from the grill on one side, fish and seafood on the other.

It opens for dinner only, from late afternoon, and there is a tasting menu if you would rather not choose. The setting suits a romantic dinner or a family meal more than a quick bite, and the hotel is close to Dejvická station on metro line A.

7. Blackdog Cantina

Gorazdova 357/1 · Nové Město, Praha 2

Blackdog Cantina calls its style “fine street food”: Tex-Mex and Latin American dishes alongside burgers and steaks, cooked with better ingredients than the label suggests. It sits on a square close to the Vltava in Nové Město, and the mood is casual, good for a business lunch, a family dinner or a night out with friends.

Steak shares the menu with tacos, burritos and tapas, which makes it the easy pick when not everyone wants a full steakhouse dinner. Pilsner Urquell 12° comes straight from the tank, beer specials rotate, and the wine list covers Czech, South American and Spanish bottles, many from small family wineries. Ask about the seasonal specials too.

Practical tips

  • Book for dinner, especially at weekends. Friday and Saturday evenings tend to fill up; weekday lunch is easier.
  • Know your doneness words. Staff in central Prague restaurants generally understand rare, medium and well done in English. On a Czech menu you may see krvavý (rare), středně propečený (medium) and propečený (well done).
  • Go hungry to the Brazilian grill. All-you-can-eat rewards patience: go easy on the salad bar early and save room for the meat.
  • Drink Czech beer with your steak. Čestr and Blackdog Cantina pour pilsner from the tank and Beef Bar serves Matuška, a match as natural as Argentine red.
  • Plan the route. Čestr and U Bílé Krávy are both a short walk from the National Museum and Muzeum metro, Beef Bar and La Casa Latina are in Old Town, and Bull & Bonito is out by Dejvická metro.

Where can I eat Czech beef in Prague?

Čestr is the obvious choice: its name and its menu come from Czech pied cattle, a native breed, served with pilsner from the tank. It is in Praha 2, near the National Museum.

Is there an all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse in Prague?

Yes. Brasileiro Slovanský Dům on Na Příkopě serves charcoal-grilled meats all-you-can-eat, with a salad bar and Brazilian sushi. Book ahead for a group.

Do I need to book a steakhouse in Prague?

For weekend dinners it is sensible, especially at intimate rooms such as U Bílé Krávy. Weekday lunches are usually easier. Bull & Bonito opens for dinner only.

Which steakhouse suits a group with different tastes?

Bull & Bonito splits its menu between grilled meat and fish or seafood, and Blackdog Cantina puts steaks next to burgers, tacos and burritos. U Bílé Krávy also has French dishes beyond the beef.

Is tipping expected in Prague restaurants?

It is customary but modest: around 10% for good service, or rounding up for a simple meal. Check the bill in case service is already included, and tell the server the total you want to pay.
