Still winter, but the light is coming back. Carnival season, Valentine’s crowds for a weekend, and the last cheap month before spring.

Where to go this month
- Neighbourhood Prague — With no crowds anywhere, February is the month to walk Vinohrady, Žižkov and Karlín properly. Daha
- Cafés and tea houses — The historic coffee houses are at their best when it is grey outside. Daha
- Day trips without queues — Karlštejn and Kutná Hora have a fraction of their summer visitors. Daha
Photography in February
Soft, diffused winter light all day — technically the easiest month for portraits, with no harsh shadows. Couples shoots work well in the covered passages and the baroque gardens’ bare architecture.
For family and couple sessions in February, a local photographer will know which spots hold the light at that hour — Kemal Onur Özman shoots families, couples and engagements across Prague and took many of the photographs on this site.
Practical tips for February
- Book Valentine’s dinner weeks ahead; walk-ins are hopeless.
- Gardens are mostly closed until April.
- Carry cash for neighbourhood carnival stalls.
