Stachelberg Fortress – Gateway to Czechoslovak Military History
Overview Stachelberg Fortress, located near Trutnov amidst the Krkonoše Mountains, stands as a monumental example of Czechoslovak fortification from 1935-1938. Today, it serves as a significant historical and architectural landmark, offering visitors a glimpse into military history.
Infantry Blockhouse TS 73 Explore the heart of Stachelberg at Infantry Blockhouse TS 73, the largest concreted building in the fortress. This unique bunker features a comprehensive exhibition with period photographs, drawings, and three-dimensional models of fortress structures, including a massive 8×2.5 meter plastic model of the completed artillery fortress.
Underground Complex Descend into the expansive 3.5 km underground complex, reaching depths of 25 to 60 meters. Originally designed to house barracks, headquarters, ammunition stores, and more for an 800-man crew, visitors can now explore approximately ¾ km of accessible underground corridors and halls. Witness the construction stages, from initial excavation to the concrete-lined passages, offering a rare view into military infrastructure.
Guided Tours and Educational Trails Embark on guided tours that highlight both the underground complex and the infantry blockhouse. Learn about light fortifications and restored trenches from 1938, providing insights into defensive strategies of the time.
