Potštejn Castle – go after the rumor of the treasure

The town of Potštejn, famous for its legendary treasure, is dominated by the ruins of a once majestic castle. The castle was conquered only once in history – by Charles IV himself (although Charles was not yet king at that time).

The treasure was allegedly hidden here by the robber knight Mikuláš in the 14th century. Count Chamaré then looked for the treasure in the deserted castle, but in vain. The destinies of Count Chamaré even inspired the writer Alois Jirásek to write the novel Poklad . The story of the treasure hunt was also filmed. He had been looking for the count for an incredible thirty-five years. One of the rumors says that they really found a strange door to the treasure. However, an inscription appeared on them: It is not yet time! Then there was a frightful roar, the diggers took their feet to their shoulders, and the earl had the door walled up. But who knows, maybe a treasure still rests in one of the secret passages.

The ruins of the medieval castle recently received a new roof, tourists will be welcomed here by an educational trail and interesting events. In the grounds of the castle there is a chapel of St. John of Nepomuck (1766), the last stop of the Way of the Cross “God’s Grave” (1754) and the commemorative plaque of Jirásk’s “Treasure”. In the fourth entrance gate there is an exhibition documenting the history of the castle .
You can have refreshments and buy souvenirs in the castle grounds. The possibility of organizing non-traditional wedding ceremonies and cultural events.
