MICHAEL KIWANUKA’S THIRD ALBUM CALLED KIWANUKA WAS RELEASED ON OCTOBER 25, 2019 ON POLYDOR RECORDS, AND MUSIC FANS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC CAN REJOICE IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT THAT THEY WILL BE ABLE TO HEAR HIM LIVE ON JULY 20 AT THE KARLÍN FORUM. THE CONCERT WAS MOVED FROM LUCERNA MUSIC BAR TO FÓRA KARLÍN DUE TO HUGE INTEREST. TICKETS PURCHASED FOR THE LUCERNA MUSIC BAR ARE ALSO VALID FOR THE KARLÍN FORUM, THERE IS NO NEED TO CHANGE THEM. TICKETS FOR CZK 790 + FEES CAN BE PURCHASED AT GOOUT.CZ AND IN THE TICKETMASTER NETWORK. IF TICKETS ARE NOT SOLD OUT IN ADVANCE, THEN ON THE SPOT FOR 900 CZK.

KIWANUKA’S RECORD FOLLOWS LOVE & HATE, WHICH WAS RELEASED IN JULY 2016 TO RAVE REVIEWS AND NUMBER ONE ON THE ALBUM CHARTS. MICHAEL KIWANUKA HAS BEEN NOMINATED TWICE FOR THE MERCURY PRIZE, THREE TIMES FOR THE BRIT AWARDS AND WAS ANNOUNCED AS THE WINNER OF BBC SOUND 2012.

LAST YEAR’S KIWANUKA ALBUM WAS RECORDED IN NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES AND LONDON. MICHAEL ONCE AGAIN COLLABORATED IN THE STUDIO WITH THE PRODUCTION TEAM OF DANGER MOUSE AND INFLO. THE ALBUM IS SIMILAR TO THE PREVIOUS ONE, SHROUDED IN A PSYCHEDELIC HAZE, BUT IT IS DIVERSE – YOU WILL HEAR ECHOES OF GREATS LIKE GIL SCOTT-HERON, BOBBY WOMACK OR OTIS REDDING ON IT. MICHAEL WORKED ON THE RECORD FOR TWO YEARS.

MICHAEL SAYS ABOUT THE ALBUM: “THE LAST ALBUM WAS VERY INTROSPECTIVE AND PROBABLY WORKED AS THERAPY. THIS IS MORE ABOUT FEELING COMFORTABLE WITH WHO I AM AND WHAT I ACTUALLY WANT TO SAY. HOW TO STAY FIRM AND COME UP WITH A CHALLENGE FOR YOURSELF AND THE LISTENERS? IT’S A RECORD ABOUT SELF-ACCEPTANCE, BUT MORE TRIUMPHANTLY THAN MELANCHOLIC. IT’S AN ALBUM THAT EXPLORES WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN TODAY.”

KIWANUKA IS THE RESULT OF THE REMARKABLE GROWTH OF AN EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED MUSICIAN. HE HAS CHANNELED HIS NATURAL TALENT INTO A WORK THAT WEAVES TOGETHER VARIOUS COMPLICATED THEMES—BLACK IDENTITY, VIOLENCE, AND SELF-DOUBT—AND IS ATMOSPHERIC AND MOODY. “THE THINGS YOU END UP LIKING ARE OFTEN THE THINGS YOU WANT TO HIDE. AND THOSE ARE APPARENTLY THE THINGS THAT UNITE US.” TELLING PEOPLE WHO YOU REALLY ARE, TRUTHFULLY AND UNMISTAKABLY, HAS NEVER BEEN SO EXCITING.

KIWANUKA’S ALBUM, IS FRESHLY NOMINATED FOR BEST BRITISH ALBUM AT THE NME 2020 AWARDS. WE WILL FIND OUT THE RESULTS DURING THE GALA EVENING, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE IN LONDON’S O2 ACADEMY ON FEBRUARY 12.
