The extensive Mikulov Jewish cemetery is one of the most important monuments of this kind in our country. The first burials here after the establishment of the local Jewish community took place sometime around the middle of the 15th century.
The cemetery was created gradually in three stages, now there are around 4,000 tombstones. The most valuable and at the same time the most visited part is the rabbinical hill with the tombstones of Mikulov and Moravian regional rabbis. The oldest preserved tombstone dates from 1605.
