Come and see the pearl of the Krkonoše Mountains located in the middle of this wonderful region, the castle with the interesting name Pecka. From the castle lookout, you can see the central Krkonoše massif with Sněžka and Černá Hora or the highest point of the region, Zvičina Hill (671 m above sea level).
The tour of the Peckov Castle includes a tour of the reconstructed Harantov Palace , where you will find seven interior rooms, a torture chamber and a cellar. The exposition on the first and second floor is focused on the history of the castle, the life and work of the most famous owner of Pecka – traveler, writer and composer Kryštof Harant from Polžice and Bezdružice , and more generally on the Renaissance and early Baroque periods. One of the rooms is dedicated to the life of rural people in Podkrkonoší. An interesting part is a tour of the stylish black kitchen with a functional Renaissance fireplace and the basement with a torture chamber. In the medieval torture chamber, you can see the most famous torture devices, from the fiddle and the crowbar to the Spanish shoe. The castle cellar has been accessible since 1993. Since the same time, it has functioned as a gallery of Czech modern art. An authentic demonstration of melodies from a hundred-year-old orchestrion adds to the variety of the tour. An interesting feature of Pecka Castle is the lighted, 56-meter deep well in the southern part of the courtyard.
The second tour circuit is called Harantovské sklepy . The exhibition gives an insight into the daily life of the castle under Kryštof Harant. It is based on period documents, especially the inventory of Harant’s property from 1621 , and approximates not only the supply of that timecastle, food storage and food preparation, but also catering and hygiene of the Harant family. In addition to the wine and beer cellar and pantries, the Veselka banquet hall and the spa are also indicated in the exhibition . The tour is complemented by a medieval torture chamber . We also recommend this route to families with children, who can touch history in a playful way through several interactive elements.
From the history of the castle
The Peckovský castle saw its greatest prosperity at the beginning of the 17th century, when the well-educated Renaissance intellectual Kryštof Harant from Polžice and Bezdružice (1564 – 1621) lived here. He spent here the last and at the same time the most fruitful stage of his life. Kryštof Harant made his mark in Czech history as a traveler, composer, writer and politician.
