Best 7 Hotels near Prague Castle

Seven hotels within walking distance of Prague Castle, from the quiet lanes of Hradčany to the foot of the Old Castle Stairs.

Prague Castle sits on a ridge above the river, and reaching it from the Old Town means a long walk and a steep climb. Sleep up here and you can be at the gates early, see the courtyards before the tour groups arrive and come back for a rest in the afternoon. The bigger surprise is the evening: once the day visitors leave, Hradčany goes quiet, and lanes like Nový Svět and Úvoz feel more like a village than a capital. The trade-off is fewer late-night restaurants and an uphill walk or tram ride home. It suits couples, walkers and second-time visitors.

Every hotel here is one we have reviewed in detail on Prague Hints, and we checked that each was still taking guests before publishing. They range from five apartments in Tycho Brahe’s former home to a 138-room hotel with congress halls and a five-star spa hotel.

1. Alchymist Prague Castle Suites

Sněmovní 8 · Malá Strana

Alchymist Prague Castle Suites is a 16th-century mansion on Sněmovní, a short street off the upper side of Malostranské náměstí, below the Castle. It has just seven rooms and one suite, done in a Baroque spirit with period furniture, rich fabrics and big marble bathrooms. It feels more like a private house than a hotel, and that is the point.

A butler handles restaurant reservations and private tours, and there is a wellness area with treatments, a gym, a library and a music room. With so few rooms, availability is the main hurdle, so book early.

2. Lindner Hotel Prague Castle

Strahovská 128 · Hradčany · 4-star

Lindner Hotel Prague Castle fills a 16th-century heritage building between the Castle and Petřín Hill, at the upper end of Hradčany. With 138 spacious rooms, two of them adapted for guests with disabilities, it is the practical choice for groups and business trips.

The Senses restaurant serves Czech and international food, and there are two bars, a gym and sauna, parking, five meeting rooms and halls for up to 200 people. Pets are listed as allowed. Petřín’s paths make a green alternative to the cobbles on the way down to Malá Strana.

3. Hotel Klarinn Prague Castle

U Železné lávky 14 · Malá Strana · 4-star

Hotel Klarinn Prague Castle is a four-star with 19 Art Nouveau rooms and suites in lower Malá Strana, near the river and about a 10-minute walk from the Castle. Rooms have views of the Castle, the Lesser Town and Charles Bridge, and there is a restaurant and a cosy courtyard garden.

It is the best pick here for families, with family rooms on offer, and pets are allowed too. Lower down the hill, you can walk up to the Castle in the morning and spend the evening by the water without a climb home. Ask which view your room has when you book.

4. Questenberk Hotel

Úvoz 15/155 · Hradčany · 4-star

Questenberk Hotel is a four-star boutique hotel on Úvoz, the street that continues uphill from Nerudova towards Strahov, a few minutes from the Castle. Its 27 rooms face the Old Town, Prague Castle or Petřín Park, so ask which side you will get.

Guests have a concierge and a lounge with complimentary tea, coffee and afternoon refreshments, welcome after a day on the hills. Family rooms are available and pets are allowed. Like the rest of upper Hradčany, Úvoz goes quiet in the evening.

5. Hotel Savoy Prague

Keplerova 6 · Hradčany · 4-star

Hotel Savoy Prague is a four-star in an early 20th-century building, about a five-minute walk from the Castle grounds. Strahov Monastery and Petřín, with its lookout tower, funicular and mirror maze, are also within walking distance. Every room has a marble bathroom and a Nespresso machine, and some have a kitchenette.

The breakfast buffet includes homemade cakes and desserts, recent listings praise the wellness area, and there is a garage. A good plan from here: walk to the Castle through Hradčanské náměstí, then take the Old Castle Stairs down, so the whole day runs downhill.

6. Aparthotel Tycho de Brahe

Nový svět 76/1 · Hradčany

Aparthotel Tycho de Brahe has five apartments in the house known as U Zlatého noha on Nový Svět, one of the prettiest corners of Hradčany. The building’s history goes back to the 14th century, and it is best known as a home of the imperial astronomer Tycho Brahe in the time of Rudolf II.

The apartments have been renovated to keep their historic character, and the small size keeps things quiet. The Castle entrance is about 300 metres away, close enough to reach St Vitus Cathedral and Golden Lane before the crowds. Pets are not allowed, and with five apartments, book well ahead.

7. Hotel Hoffmeister

Pod Bruskou 7 · Malá Strana · 5-star

Hotel Hoffmeister is a five-star at the foot of the Old Castle Stairs, with the Castle and Charles Bridge each about a 12-minute walk away. The draw is the Lily Wellness & Spa, with Roman baths and a steam ceremony in a cave-like setting.

The restaurant does modern fine dining with seasonal ingredients, and the bar is good for a nightcap. There is garage parking and an accessible room, and the hotel hosts weddings and events. The stairs are steep, but climbing them first thing gets you to the Castle before it fills up.

Practical tips

  • Ride up, walk down. The hill between Malá Strana and the Castle is steep. Take a tram up and walk down through the lanes, not the other way round.
  • Plan dinner. Hradčany is quiet in the evening once the day visitors leave, with fewer places open late. Book a table, or use a hotel restaurant: Lindner, Klarinn, Savoy and Hoffmeister all have one.
  • Go to the Castle early. The courtyards usually open well before the ticketed buildings, and the first hours are far calmer than midday.
  • Sort out the taxi drop-off. Some lanes are narrow or have restricted access. Send the hotel your arrival time and ask where a taxi can stop.
  • Check parking before you drive. Lindner, Savoy and Hoffmeister list parking or a garage; elsewhere, ask the hotel for the nearest car park.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth staying near Prague Castle?

If you want quiet evenings and an early start at the Castle, yes. Hradčany empties once the day visitors leave, which makes it one of the calmer places to sleep in central Prague. The downside is the hill: every trip to the Old Town ends with a climb or a tram ride back.

Should I stay in Hradčany or Malá Strana?

Hradčany, at the top of the hill, is quieter and closest to the Castle gates; Lindner, Questenberk, Savoy and Tycho de Brahe are up here. Malá Strana, below, is livelier and closer to the river and Charles Bridge. Alchymist, Klarinn and Hoffmeister are on this side and still within walking distance of the Castle.

Which hotels near Prague Castle have a spa?

Hotel Hoffmeister has the Lily Wellness & Spa, and Alchymist Prague Castle Suites offers spa treatments. Lindner has a sauna and gym, and Hotel Savoy has a wellness area. Check what is included in your rate and whether treatments need booking.

Are there pet-friendly hotels near Prague Castle?

Lindner, Klarinn and Questenberk all list pets as allowed. Aparthotel Tycho de Brahe does not accept pets. Policies and fees change, so confirm with the hotel before you travel.
