We warmly welcome you to the We warmly welcome you to the 78th edition of the Strážnice IFF and at the same time to the 41st edition of the Dětská Strážnice Folklore Festival. Cultural heritage, of which folk culture and its many forms of existence are an important part, belongs to the firm values of every society.
It is necessary to take care of it – to protect it, but also to develop it and pass it on to the next generations.
The National Institute of Folk Culture, the organizer of the Strážnice festival, strives for this within the framework of the Convention on the Preservation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity through this festival as well to the 41st edition of the Dětská Strážnice Folklore Festival.
Cultural heritage, of which folk culture and its many forms of existence are an important part, belongs to the firm values of every society. It is necessary to take care of it – to protect it, but also to develop it and pass it on to the next generations. The National Institute of Folk Culture, the organizer of the Strážnice festival, strives for this within the framework of the Convention on the Preservation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity through this festival as well.
There are dance, music, children’s, parade and competition, entertaining or popular-educational programs for children and adults.
In the castle park, in the open-air museum, in the premises of the castle and in the streets of the city, domestic and foreign performers will be presented, whose selection is coordinated by the International Council of Organizers of Folklore Festivals and Folk Art (CIOFF).
Our main goal is to present folklore cultural heritage in the widest possible spectrum.
The Guardian Festival is special in many ways. It is the largest and oldest regularly held event of its kind in the Czech Republic. It is also the only national one, although many associate it with Slovácko. Of course, this region has a large presence here, but the aim of the festival’s program board is to present the folk traditions of our entire country. At the same time, every year, now among the representatives of foreign performers, you will also find Slovak ensembles here, because the Czech-Slovak reciprocity has been reflected by the Stránky celebrations since its first year in 1946. It is quite understandable, when it is from here to the Moravian-Slovak border, what would agreed with a stone.
The close cultural bond between the two nations is evident in the folklore at first sight, or rather at first hearing. If you take a walk through Strážní Park on Friday or Saturday night and stop by one of the many groups of musicians, singers and dancers, you will discover that the Slovak folk song combines with the Moravian and Czech folk songs in a truly significant way. And it’s good. It’s not about whose song you sing, but whether that song is still alive, whether it brings joy to generations to come. Generations before us approached it in the same way. Whether you came to Strážnice for entertainment or learning, whether you came to admire the products of traditional folk crafts, or to buy from them or other sellers, whether you are here with family, friends or members of a folklore collective, you are welcome. Make the most of the festival. And if you don’t like something, be sure to write to us. We want you to keep coming back to Strážnice…
