Regional museum in Mikulov

The Mikulov Castle, standing on the edge of the Pálava PLA, has been the seat of the Regional Museum in Mikulov for several decades.

The regional museum in Mikulov is located in the Mikulov castle in the center of the city’s conservation area and manages, in addition to the castle, the Upper Synagogue in Mikulov , the Pavlov Archeopark , the Mrštík Brothers Memorial in Diváky and the House of Nature in Dolní Věstonice  (under construction). During its nearly century-long activity, the museum organized hundreds of exhibitions and cultural events and was both a driving force and a witness to significant social changes in the region.

The museum focuses on regional collections. In the castle, it is possible to find historical, art-historical, ethnographic, archival exhibitions, as well as collections focused on modern history and the history of the region. Due to the location of the museum in the heart of the wine region, the focus on wine and oenological collections is also evident.

Thanks to the management of the Pavlov Archeopark, the museum also has an extensive collection of archaeological finds. It is constantly expanding thanks to cooperation with the Archaeological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Brno, vvii. Jewish history and Judaica collections are an integral part of the history of Mikulov, and thus the focus of the museum.

Natural history collections, which are truly remarkable thanks to the nearby Pavlovské vrchy, must not be missing in any regional museum.

Every year, the museum organizes popular events, whether it is the Festival of Museum Nights, Open Garden Weekend, the Křehký Mikulov contemporary design festival, or the Dílna art symposium. The museum is mainly interested in regional history, archaeology, natural science and ethnography with a focus on winemaking.
