The museum is an exposition of the Šumava Museum in Sušice. It was built as a memorial to Jewish historian and rabbi Dr. Šimon Adler, who became a victim of the Holocaust in the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944.

The museum is located in the settlement of Dobrá Voda nad Hartmanice, near the church of St. Vintíre and the healing spring springing up not far from it. He dedicates himself to the memory of several dozen defunct communities in the West Bohemian borderland and introduces himself in an original way to the life of the Jewish minority in Šumava.

The exhibition also includes a reconstructed original kosher slaughterhouse and the interior of the Pošumav pub. The documentation of the life of a Jewish family is divided into the most important milestones: birth, male circumcision, bar mitzvah, wedding and end of life. Important Jewish holidays are also commemorated here. The concept of the exhibition is beneficial for getting to know the multi-ethnic population of Šumavaand it shows that people of different faiths and different nationalities, living in one geographical environment can form a single residential community, as long as they do not become the object of political manipulation.

The museum was created on the initiative and with the financial contribution of the family of Mr. Matytiah Adler, as well as at the expense of the city of Hartmanice and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and is located in the reconstructed birthplace of the Jewish historian and rabbi Dr. Simon Adler.

The view from Dobrá Voda of the surrounding countryside with Kašperk Castle is one of the most beautiful views in Šumava.
