The Shah’s Synagogue from the 16th century is one of the most important monuments not only in Holešov and its surroundings, but also in the entire Czech Republic. Since this synagogue is today the only synagogue of the so-called Polish type that has been preserved in its original form until today, it is even referred to as unique in the world.

The synagogue is named after the prominent rabbi Sabbati ben Meir Kohen , known as the Shah . It was built in the 16th century and as a synagogue of the so-called Polish type, it ranks among Czech and world uniques . Nowadays, the exhibition Jews and Moravia is located in the women’s gallery and in the former Jewish school , introducing visitors to the history of Jews in Moravia from the earliest records to the Second World War.

The second part of the exhibition introduces Jewish monuments that exist today in Moravia or at least existed before. In both of these rooms, objects used for religious services and everyday life are also displayed. Public services are held in the Holešov Synagogue only by appointmentJewish Culture Week . In addition to the synagogue, the nearby Jewish cemetery

is also worth mentioning , which is important primarily because it contains the grave of the prominent scholar Rabbi Sabbatai ben Meir ha-Kohen , after whom the synagogue is named.
