Interactive Exhibition on Pond Farming
History of Třeboň Ponds Delve into the creation and evolution of the renowned Třeboň ponds. Experience a short film detailing the engineering marvel of the Zlatá stoka and engage with period measuring instruments used in pond construction. Step into the backyard and operate a functional model of the Zlatá stoka, simulating water management through sluice gates—an activity both educational and entertaining.
Exhibits and Artifacts Explore displays showcasing fishing equipment, original maps, and ancient documents that illuminate the unique landscape and craftsmanship of the Třeboň region.
Štěpánek Netolický and Jakub Krčín: Pioneers of Pond Farming
Štěpánek Netolický (ca. 1460–1538) Learn about Štěpánek Netolický, a pivotal figure in early pond management. As the chief pond governor, he engineered the Zlatá stoka—a waterway pivotal to the Třeboň pond system—and contributed significantly to local infrastructure and surveying practices.
Jakub Krčín (1535–1604) Discover Jakub Krčín’s enduring impact on pond farming. Serving under the Rosenbergs, he expanded and constructed numerous ponds including the monumental Rožmberk pond, a feat of engineering completed in 1589. Krčín’s innovations included flood management strategies, shaping the landscape and economy of South Bohemia.
