Charles Castle was founded by King Charles IV. and under the German name Karlshaus , the castle is remembered as early as 1357. The nearby village of Purkarec was also founded at the same time. The castle was located in the Stará obóra, belonging to the Hluboká nad Vltavou castle , and was intended mainly for hunting events. The castle was apparently without towers, it was entered through a moat with a drawbridgestraight to the courtyard. Since the end of the 14th century, however, it is already listed as abandoned.

In the castle grounds, you can use the new fireplace and read several information boards. Several local legends are connected to the history of the castle , according to the most famous of them, there is a wine cellar filled with wine hidden somewhere under the castle, which is supposed to be guarded by a big angry dog.
