castleit is first documented in 1318 and for the next 70 years it was in the possession of the lords of Šelmberk, whose ancestor and at the same time the first member of the family probably built the castle. The original Gothic castle was rebuilt at the end of the 16th century and supplemented with a new wall. However, it was already abandoned during the Thirty Years’ War, and in the 18th century part of the masonry was taken away by the surrounding villagers. What about the bergfit? Bergfrit is the round main tower of the castle. In case of need, it served the defenders as a last refuge. For defense reasons, it used to be accessible only via an easily removable bridge on the upper floor. A 26-meter-high cylindrical tower has been preserved on Šelmberk , which now serves as a lookout tower with a wonderful view of the surrounding area. The remains of mostly Renaissance palaces are also preserved.

The castle is an important partHistory of the craft education center . Here you will find, for example, a herb garden, a pottery workshop and a kiln, a weaving workshop, a brewery, a carpentry and saddlery workshop, a bath house and other interesting elements. There is also an information center.
