Prague is one of the most photographed cities in Europe, which is exactly the problem: the famous viewpoints are full from mid-morning until dark. Everything below is organised around timing, because in this city the hour you arrive matters more than the lens you bring.

Practical tips

Charles Bridge before 07:00 is a completely different bridge. This is the single most useful tip on this page.
Blue hour is short. Roughly 25 minutes after sunset; after that the contrast becomes unmanageable.
Overcast days are good days for portraits — soft, even light and no squinting.
Watch the clocks in late October, when sunset jumps from 17:30 to 16:30 overnight.
